We’d sit under the billiard table with blankets draped down the sides. We’d write ’yes’, ‘no’ and the letters of the alphabet on little squares of paper and put them in a circle. Then, by the torchlight, we’d all place a finger on an upturned glass in the centre of the circle. One of us would ask a question and we’d wait for a spirit to come into the glass.
The glass moves slowly at first. We all look at each other. But then the glass tips over because whoever is pushing it pushes too hard.
I’ve never seen a ghost. I’m not sure I ever want to see one. But I do know this; people talk about a ghost living at a pub in a small Victorian Mallee town. And someone I know was standing at the urinal in that pub when he heard the door knob turn. The door opened and footsteps came through and stopped right beside him. But there was no-one there.
That’s the sort of thing we wanted to happen with our Ouija board when we were kids. Not as an adult when you’re alone in the toilet of an old pub.

I believe in spirits, signs and things like that, how can all our soul/spirit just evaporate when we die? Surely some of it remains! Not sure about ghosts…

I’ve read a great book about spirits, ‘Journey of Souls’ by Michael Newton. His hypnotised patients talk about life in the spirit world and why they come back in certain bodies.

I don’t believe in ghosts but a “Mr Nobody” resides at my house and although I am yet to meet him, he is to blame for lots of unanswered occurrences such as the unknown whereabouts of missing items and who took the confiscated item – but definitely no ghosts!!

The teacher’s accom at my ‘country’ posting had a lady ghost, apparently. I think sightings of her might have been due to the spirits consumed at the adjacent pub!!!
